Peace and Prosperity are two words synonymous with Pune city, which is internationally acclaimed for its educational traditions and communal harmony. Students come here not only from all over India but from all over the world. Apart from students, a large number of foreigners are drawn to the BKS Iyengar Yoga Institute, and the Osho Center. Pune is, in fact} a potpourri of the old and the new. What makes it tick is a harmonious blend between the two. This growing metropolis brings to the mind a myriad of images – ancient forts, ornate palaces, shopping arcades, educational institutions, Temples, mosques, and churches and rolling hills. The Ganapati festival celebrated yearly, called the Pune Festival, has made its mark on the tourist map of India.

The Socio-economic profile of Pune is also being transformed with its fast-growing urban area and growth in industry and technology. It has also become the nerve center for IT-BT, automobiles and real estate among other things. The city is a cultural centre for theatre, music, dance and film; and represents a synthesis of modern science and ancient wisdom, a dynamic hub of educational, technological and industrial activities. No wonder then that it is the Cultural and intellectual capital of Maharashtra. Pune is also home to well known giants of the Indian software industry like Wipro, Infosys, Sat yam, Tata Technologies, TCS, Kanbay, Veritas, Cognizant, PCS and Mahindra British Telecom. The city boasts of the National Defense Academy, Institute of Military Engineering, the Film and Television Institute, Armed Forces Medical College, and College of Archaeological studies.

The Poona college of Arts Science & commerce was founded In the year 1970 by the Anjuman Khairul Islam (A.K.I.) Mumbai and is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) at the Junior College level and to the University of Pune at the Senior College level in a short period of 38Years, the college has grown into a full fledged degree college with P.G. centers in Electronics Computer Science, Organic Chemistry, Zoology, English, Economics, Urdu and Commerce. The college can proudly boost of having full fledged University recognised research centers in Commerce, Chemistry & Economics with research guides in the above subjects.The college is also planning to have research centres in Urdu and English very shortly. It is a matter of pride that the college has University approved research guides in the subjects such as English, Bio-mathematics, Geology & Environmental Science, Botany and Bioinformatics. The Poona College is also the first college in Pune to be selected by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi for the introduction of Computer Maintenance course at the degree level as a part of the UGC programs “Vocationalization of First Degree Education” from the academic year 1994-95. The college also imparts teaching for vocational course of Electronics and information Technology at the Junior College level. The college has been accredited by NAAC and was awarded ‘A’ Grade in Feb. 2004.

The institute is fully equipped with modern infra structural facilities and has top class Faculty members. Due to the dedication of highly qualified staff, the strength of the college has reached around 6200 students, of which 3600 are in Senior College. The University and Board Examination results speak well of the high degree of academic excellence attained by the students who are equally proficient in co-curricular activities in which they take keen interest. Stress is laid on character building and all round development of the student’s personality. Students are also encouraged to take active part in sports and they have made good progress in this field too. Special attention is paid to the students coming from economically backward and other backward classes as well as scheduled castes and tribes.
